Black alien-like algae?

What is this black stuff? These photos were taken in the earlier stages of its growth before I returned home from vacation and before it turned into an alien-like form. Any help would be appreciated!

I would guess some form of cyano, but I am horrible at these things, so someone will come soon to confirm.

Dust. Long shot but I’ve made that mistake before on a fw tank and it looked like that.

Only thing make me hesitate is I would think it would kinda blanket everything and not concentrate so much on the sand.

Looks like cyanobacteria to me as well.

Did you wash it before you put it in the tank ?

Yes, I washed it and it’s been several months since I put the carbon filter in the tank. Going off photos, this appears to be Cyano. Thanks everyone for the input. You guys have been super helpful.
