So I have a question regarding my light schedule for my 16g biocube. I purchased the aqua knight LED black box and I want to know your guy's opinion on the optimum lighting schedule. I currently have 2 clownfish but am planning on adding a bunch of soft corals and maybe an anemone in the near future. I usually go to work around 7:30ish and return anytime between 5-6:30. The light has white and blue settings. The problem I'm having is there is no controller or way to slowly raise or lower the brightness while I'm away so was curious whether there was a good schedule for my situation. Thanks!

I'm not too familiar with the black boxes, but from some research I've done, a lot of them are not able to have a schedule. Basically a set it and forget it kind of light. Turn it on when you want (or use a timer) and set it to your desired settings. You would have to manually adjust throughout the day.

Is there a time of day which it should come on and turn off?

sb reef makes a wifi controlled light that has the ramping abilities. I have 2 on ym 75 gallon seahorse tank and love them. set the schedule and forget and you can have like 48 time points throughout the day

As mentioned above about 8 hours total is what you want and if there is a controller you can add that will give you ramp up and ramp down ability, all the better. Otherwise a cheap $4 timer from Walmart will be surprisingly effective (no ramp up and down with one of course). One of the reasons why I didn't go with the black box was because of the lack of ramp up and down out of the box.
