Over the years, every time I have tried a any non-reef marketed sand, I have always regretted it. I have also had several people advise against it. Most "sand" that is not directly marketed for reef tanks is made of components that are not safe for reef fish. Not that it causes contamination but that the material itself can negatively effect/scratch/injure the fish. In addition, if this is the sand blasting material I see on their website(Tractor Supply), I would be hard pressed to say that sand is at all safe/clean/has debris and other things in it you DO NOT want in a reef tank.
Reef "sand" is not cheap, but cheap sand is just that. Cheap sand.
PLUS. I found that every time I put cheap sand in a tank with intense lighting, the cheap sand had odd visual effects. Glittery. Mostly because of the glass like nature of sand vs crushed coral.
