Hi reefers,

Im getting back into the hobby and remembered there use to be some really good deals for Black Friday- is this still happening? I may wait till then to make my purchases...

I seem to remember Bulk Reef Supply had some great deals.
Do aquarium companies like Innovative Marine also do Black Friday deals?

Sort of, depends on what you are looking for
This issue is the MAP prices, on most popular items we want, are locked and the manufacture usually only lets vendors give 10% off near black friday week

After walking around stores lately, I question whether they will have the stock to even sustain a Black Friday sale at all.

Normally, Black Friday sales are a thing, and you can save quite a bit of money by taking advantage. Even on MAP brands... 10% off on a $1,600 lighting setup is still $160.

This year, however, I wouldn't count on sales happening, especially on anything that's coming from overseas. Stock is INCREDIBLY tight on almost everything, and companies don't feel the need to offer discounts in order to move product; it sells out regardless, so why take less money?

If you wait until Black Friday, it might not be available then. So take what you can get, buy used where acceptable, and get started now if you have the money.

Last Thanksgiving weekend there were some really nice price markdowns that I took advantage of on major equipment. It will be worth the wait if you want to put things off until then. I was glad I did.

Last year there was still supply in the supply chain, an existing inventory, and people were not over indulging at this time. Sales were needed to push sales. This year, there is next to no reason for a vendor to give a sale as they are already selling as much as they can carry. (Laughing, I am sure a few people out there think that they should do it for the good of their customers. :p  )

My local Targets look like they are going out of business with half stocked shelves/aisles. Its crazy. Christmas shopping is going to be madness.

You mean I can actually get around Walmart without running into mounds of junk piled up in the aisles?

Well, my super Walmart inventory looks like it always does and I was in there three days ago. I suggest you call Bulk Reef Supply and a couple of the other vendors and see if their warehouses are short on inventory and if they will be having their normal Black Friday weekend sales. No doubt there are supply issues on certain items.

Bulk reef supply didn’t have a Labor Day sale. Nada. Premuimaquatics had non map only. Gonna be slim pickings on any of the hit items.

IMO since covid has effected worldwide supply chains.... deep Black Friday deals are DEAD. Count your blessing the stuff is in stock at 100% retail pricing

There are always multiple places to shop. Vendors need to offer Black Friday prices that customers can’t turn away from. I’m not buying anything if prices are the same as a Labor Day weekend sale. So far this years sales suck. Be strategic about what they offer discounts on and maybe they won’t have a horrible year of sales.
