Black hair algea???

I have hair algae that is black. Does any one know what and why this is happening? I have a 30 gallon cube with HOB skimmer, HOB Marineland bio wheel power filter, led lights that half of the lights don't work. How can I get rid of this and is it harmful to my livestock?

That is one of many species of monera or Cyanobacteria imo and it could be mixed with some light GHA...showing up in mixes isn't rare for light invasions in our tanks

My own tank and apparent inoculation source selects for red cyano when I'm lazy with water changes, the colony w express on the sb

No chem approach, all I have to do is siphon it out do a giant water change and clean the sandbed to have it stay gone months, until the next lazy export round. Margarita snails and emerald crabs like it

Cyano doesn't need our nitrogen input to access nitrogen, neat trait as well. Everywhere they go 78% is available for extraction

And also in my opinion that's half the battle, they are the preventers of regrowth but not the removers. For sure I've found in reefing that agreeing to repeat manually remove these mats is more critical than anything...not leaving it in the tank. It only seems like it grows back indefinitely but it gets slower and if your snails take to it, that lowers the regrowth. I wouldn't input them into a tank of it, but a tank made free of it just before putting them in. In my tank, merely water change and a single focused removal run prevents it until the next lazy interval.

I will manually remove it again and buy the snails. I did a 20% water change 2 days ago. I do have a condy anemone missing for over a week, could that be the problem?

Cyano, get some more water movement down there. Wave it off every time you see it start.

My powerhead are hitting it pretty hard. It might be I'm leaving the lights on too long.
