Black ich and brooklynella? Plz ID

Hey all,

Tomorrow I wanna start quarantine my fish but I'm not 100% sure what my clown and foxface got.

I think I see on the clown is brooklynella and on my foxface black and white ich?

I also have to mention that my foxface is constantly shaking his head

I purchased a bottle of formalin 37% for the black ich and brooklynella and got seachem cupramine to treat for ich.

I agree with your assessment. I see black ich (turbellarian) on the foxface, and possibly regular ich (Cryptocaryon). The head shaking could be flukes I would give the fish a formalin dip to screen for flukes - look at the settled dip water with a magnifying glass to see if you can find worms. Remember that foxface have venomous spines, don't handle that fish directly!

I would start ramping up your copper over the next two days.

That is a pretty clown - but it looks wild caught. Wild clowns have been a Brook issue since the early 1980s, when whole shipments of ocellaris would die after arriving from Jakarta.

Treatment
Few treatments are effective against Brooklynellosis, although two options include a 14-day chloroquine treatment at 15 mg/l or daily formalin dips at 150 ppm for 45 minutes with good aeration. Reducing the specific gravity of the treatment tank may assist the fish in balancing the electrolytes lost due to skin and gill damage. A target specific gravity of 1.018 should be maintained during treatment.

To calculate formalin as ppm, you consider it to be 100% active ingredient. Gallons times PPM / 266 = milliliters of formalin. So; for a 2 gallon dip at 150 ppm, it would be 2 * 150 / 266 = 1.13 ml formalin.

Hello Jay,

At first thanks for your help!
Unfortunately i only have one 60L QT and one "spare" heater at the moment.

My idea was to give all the fish a formalin bath (for now the clown and foxface because they are hit the hardest) and then put them in QT to treat them with copper.

Is it possible to cure the fish from black ich and Brook with one formalin dip or will this not be enough?

Ps. I already did a freshwater dip on the foxface for 4mins and I saw no flukes coming off.

One dip is usually not enough. Daily dips until the symptoms reduce is what you may need to go with...at least 3 days. Formalin is harsh, but the alternative is worse.
