Just did a water change and was checking everything out and noticed TONS of black pin prick spots all over my yellow tang. :-/

Now, I'm hoping and praying that it is just crap that I stirred up and scrubbed off the rock prior to the water change sticking to his mucus membrane, but knowing my luck probably not. Plus they are all uniform in size.

He is about a month old in my tank and came from another members tank (had him a few years). I did not quarantine him as it was kind of a last minute deal that I came across when I was out of town and did not have anything set up for a qt tank when I got home late that night.

He was skittish at first in my set up, so I'm at the tank all the time observing him and getting him used to being out and not hiding when someone is around. He has never showed any signs of stress, scratching, quick or labored breathing, and I have never noticed any spots before. He also eats like pig. I feed nori daily which he just obliterates and once a week I add a few drops of garlic to the nori. He also eats the flakes, pellets, and meat when I feed the tank that. So in short, has a pretty good diet and seems healthy to me.

I've read that black ich is much less fatal/aggressive than regular ich. So my question is, am I okay to not take action for a day or so to make sure its not just crap stuck to him? I'd hate to stress him out (and the other fish) trying to catch everyone and give them a dip and move them into a qt tank, if there is no need to.

Halp! ;Facepalm;Sorry

Dose prazipro 5-6 days apart. That should help if it's black ich because it's actually a type of fluke.

A photo of the afflicted fish would be helpful to us :)

Could I dose display tank? I haven't really started stocking much coral yet as I'm not sure which route I want to go yet, so I could either move the few pieces I have to frag tank, or just leave em be.
If it is black ich, does dosing prazipro actually kill everything? Including the ones free swimming/not attached to a host yet? Or does it just help out the fish? Knock on wood, this is the first parasite/disease I've dealt with the in the few years of having a sw tank.

Here's a photo. Not the sharpest quality. He wouldn't stay still enough to get a good photo...

Yes it can be dosed in DT. It'll upset some things but they've always recovered fine. Turn skimmer off and remove all media like carbon, GFO etc.

Dosed prazipro and everything is good! I'll dose again in a few days to kill off any eggs that hatch (I've heard prazipro doesn't kill eggs). Now only if he would stop being so dang shy!!
