hello. I currently have a 29 gal tank and was thinking of upgrading to a larger maybe 90 gal one. I was curious to try scaping it with either all black lava rock or maybe half black lava rock and half white dry rock. Does any one have experiance with black lava rock in their tanks? Also if you could share a pic of it. I am not sure how it will look once the tank is a year old. Thank you!

Welcome to Reef2Reef! Probably not a good idea to use any volcanic rock in your tank as it may contain metals.

Black lava rock was once a staple in the hobby for 'base rock'. I've always thought it was a bad idea due to the aforementioned possibility of heavy metals. As far as looks, a few years down the road it will all be purple so...

I have run the Carib black sand and have had no issues yet just about a year later. It does seem to want to stick to my Flipper scraper so I usually do not go to the bottom with it and use a sponge. My last tank had nice white sand that stayed white for about a month then got nasty. With the black I know I have alge there but I can hardly see it. Black does make the corals pop nicely.
