I recently started a thread about the necessity of moon lights. Since then ive tried a couple variations of ligjt just for fun. Even a black light !! I was plesently surprized with some of my coral. My challenge to you is to light up your tank and see the beauty of your corals under black light post your pics here and have fun with it :)

I have always wondered what a tank would look like under black light, but have been to lazy to actually try it out. I think I'm now tempted...

Looks the same as a tank with blue lights just without the light intensity

Be careful with black lights on your tank. Yeah it looks neat but black lights put out some pretty substantial uv a waves.

In nature, ultraviolet light waves (UV-A and UV-B) penetrate the ocean's surface but are filtered out as the light travels through the water. Both UV-A and UV-B light waves have been found to cause destruction of DNA and RNA within coral tissue. In response, many corals have made adaptations to reduce the effects of these harmful rays. These corals developed protective pigments that are often blue, purple, or pink in color. Most corals that contain these pigments come from shallow waters where the amount of UV-A and UV-B light is higher than in deeper areas of the reef

Well, you got,me intrigued and I dug up an old handheld black light that came with a pet cleaner...sorry ahead of time for the cruddy iPhone pics:

The hot pink blob is an ora Easter egg chalice and it looks sweet under the light, hot pink with bright yellow eyes :-)
