Hello All

Ive had this Naso for about a year and has been in great shape. Nothing has been added except a redsea reef matt with their carbon tray.

the marks have appeared today on the tang. The reefmat was put in about a month ago. Nothing new has been in the tank! Any suggestion would be appreciated. He is still eating and acting normally.

Should add he is fed a variety of mysis/flake and nori food is always soaked in selcon and garlic.

I see markings on his nose and above his eye. Although not as clear, I also see what appears to be black spots on his side.

Are these the areas you are questioning?

More information about the tank, recent additions and any other recent health issues will be useful. See the link below for other valuable info to help in diagnosis.

Appears to be cryptocaryon which is marine ich but not what you typically treat with coppersafe.
for diet, you will need to step it up for especially this type of tang
Will take a look very shortly and verify what I’m saying it is

Can be a reaction to carbon but looks more bacterial than crypto. Fish may have to go to quarantine. You Can take a gamble and treat with Ruby Rally Pro within tank but hate to when others are healthy. other med you can use is Seachem Kanaplex.
For diet,
-Spirulina brine shrimp
- LRS Herbivore diet
- mysis shrimp
- small plankton
- Nori seaweed basted with garlic extract
- Hikari Marine cuisine
- Formula 2 flake and frozen
- Hikari veggie marine

Add selcon vitamins to the foods 2-3X per week and on alternating days, garlic extract for stamina and immunity health

There is no way it can be ich. Every piece of life stock has gone through months of QT. Fish have been their for over a year with no signs. they don't look like spots. they look like patches.

In terms of diet.

Mysis/selcon/garlic
Formula 2 flake
formula 2 frozen
Nori/Garlic

Plankton when coral is fed etc.

Other fish look ok? from what I can tell. I thought it could be a reaction to the carbon since that was new? the only ever real even was 3 months the main return packedup and their was a bit of a nitrate spike. but that was months ago.

other than that its been pretty steady.

Yes! these appeared today. i listted the diet a post below. Im just unsure of what it is. Fish is still super active and pigging out. Nothing significant has happened in a very long time

Are the black spots only on the naso's left side, or are their some on the right as well?

Honestly, in the best way possible to describe it

They look like solid black lines they are not perfectly straight or have a pattern

The ones on his face are like a blotch almost like a bruise.

it reminds me of like a scrape or a bruise rather than small spots.

It does appear on both sides but there doesn't seem to be a pattern to it

there is nothing on his fins

I had an ICP test a couple of weeks ago which was missing some minor trace elements which were corrected. I guess that could have been an event but was maybe a 6 weeks ago.

Well, I’m stumped. Scrapes/bruises typically show up on just one side, not both. Still, perhaps the fish got freaked out and jammed itself between two rocks and injured both sides at once? That would account for the rapid onset.

I am also stumped.

he is still fiesty. Pulled nori off of me and swam off. munched the entire sheet.

is hard to explain - ich to me always looks 'embedded' almost like a nasty case of teen achne. it doesn't look like that.

it reminds if you looked at say stretch marks on a human but they are this black/grey color. it certainly wasn't their the other day.

My vlamingi tang gets bit by my clowns and looks very similar in color to this. I agree that they appear to be bruises/scraps. They usually go away in a day or two. If they persist then likely something else.

Thats so funny. There are clowns in there. My wife actually said the same thing. we have not seen any bullying or aggression but will keep an eye on that. did yours ever resolve?

Myne gets a new bite mark every few day heals very quickly around 2 days or less, my fish is fairly young though. Jay's theory makes sense to me and the coloration is very similar. Id say keep an eye on the fish though you never know.

tomrrow i will add some rock around for the tang and clowns to get more space between them I guess. 300g not enough xD

I doubt its the clown more than likely ran into the rockwork/tired to squeeze threw a small crevasse or got into it with larger fish. What I'm attempting to say is it looks similar to damage from something extior, brusing/scrapes. If it doesn't heal in a few days its likely due to something completely different. I know my fish all act like best friends when I'm near the tank but when I'm on the other side of the room they start going at it like unsupervised children. Hard to tell just what happened lol. Hope everything turns out favorably and the cause is determined.

Naso is certainly the biggest fish in their. and a ton of space the tank looks empty most of the time lol. But I think your right about the scrape
