I really want to do a fluorescent style tank. With really eye-popping colors on the black sand with fluorescent coral and colorful fish what are your thoughts?
blue or black background ?
gobies eat/filter Blacksand as well??
also I want to go very thin sanded for easy maintenance. Thoughts?

just paint the outside of the bottom black and no gobies. black sand is usually volcanic in nature.. which has iron and other heavy metals, which can leach/rust and cause issues (there is several threads on here if you search). there is ceramic coated black sand (not live) which is useless to sand sifters and will serve as only a decoration as it will never be live because its coated. thin sandbed doesnt work for sand sifters, they will starve

here is one of many threads on black sand
