Black or white sand? The backround is black. I think the black would make the fish and corals really pop, like a yellow tang, I think it would look really good. But it might make it too dark. What do you guys think? Pictures much appreciated.

IIRC, there are issues with black sand that you can buy for aquariums.

I had a terrible problem with a tank that had it in it. But, I didn't realize that could have been the cause until I tore the tank down.

Do a search for the thread here. Lots of good information.

How many times have you seen black sand on a reef!:) In my opinion white sand looks natural and so much better. The black background of your tank will make everything stand out well enough.

Blast it all, I was hoping for different answers...my brackish tank that I am in the midst of converting to full salt has a black sand base :-(

I like black, some pieces are magnetic with the Carib Sea black Hawaii but I use a flipper and the magnet does not pull very hard on the outer rim so as long as I go slow I don’t have any worries. I have GHA in small amounts mostly on the substrate and I need to have my lights at 100% every Chanel to really see it. Definitely get the pop
