Hi all. I have 625 litre tank with two 1 inch regular ocellaris orange and white clowns in it. A friend of mine is closing his tank down and has a 2 to 3 inch male black Percula clown which needs to go. Do you see any issues with me putting it in with my two clowns?

I've had the two clowns for about a month so I'm not sure if they are paired yet .

Clownfish are protandrous hermaphodites (male first). The larger more dominate fish turn female instead of male.
"Black Percula" is usually Darwin Ocellais. These fish normally all black and white, or may have orange snout only. This is likely what you have. Onyx A. percula are almost never all black and white but have bright orange face and fins with black coloration continuous between the white bars. Either ways, they should get along just fine. Sometime in cross species pairing is a little harder on the male. These days with so many cross species fish, some of the "Black Percula" are actually cross between Black A. ocellaris and Onyx A. percula.
If you post a picture of the fish, we all can ID her for you.
This is Onyx A. percula. These are harder to get and often more expensive than the regular A. percula

Thanks for the reply and those cross breeds look cool!. I'm not Interested in breeding them, I want them to coexist happily. I definitely can see one my my current clowns is more dominant than the other, but I have only had them 1 month and they are small (1 inch). There has been a little chasing and tail biting.

So you think if I add this larger 2 to 3 inch black Percula, it's more likely to become the female and the two small current orange clowns should stay male? It's over double the size of the clowns I have, i was worried it might bully them.

I'll try to get a picture of the Percula but it's all black with white stripes.

Those are not cross breed. They are wild caught, perfectly shaped, Onyx Percula and tank raise full breed Darwin Ocellaris that are somewhat deformed.

Do you think the the 3 together will be ok?

Yes and no...this is a tricky question.
In my experience: I once had 5, until 3 of them were killed off by the dominant 2.
Is it possible? Sure, anything is possible. There are a few factors that come into play:
1) Fish's ages
2) Their temperament
3) Are the ones in your system "established"? (Been there for awhile)

If they've been in your system awhile, they will likely have their own territory picked out and don't want any outsiders, therefore possibly killing the newcomer. On the other hand, the newcomer may avoid the previous pair and coexist in the tank on separate sides.

Anything is possible, and it's at least worth a try in my opinion. If you see it going bad, separate them and figure something out from there.

UPDATE: I went for it and added the Percula clown and so far so good. They have shown zero interest in each other. I will keep a close eye on them but it's been 1 day and so far so good.
