Hey guys, my name is George I just got out of the marine corps so I decided to get saltwater tank to help me with my ptsd. I currently have a 75gallon tank, it's currently a month and half old! I purchased a black ribbon eel, 2 days ago I found him on the floor but he was only there for about 20 min I put him back in the tank he was breathing fast but that slowed down. Now he is moving but slowly like he is still in shock! He seems fine when the lights are off. I'm still new to the hobby so I just want to see what more experience people have to say.

Eels are great escape artists, as you've found out!! You need a very secure lid on your tank. As for his trauma, best thing you can do right now is keep an eye on him. They're nocturnal, so if you're observing normal behavior at night that's a good sign.

Eels are pretty resilient if found soon enough after an escape, if it survives the night it should be fine.

Have you had trouble feeding it? Ribbon eels are notoriously difficult to get to accept food.
