Black Rock Looking Things

I fed my fish the pellets for the first time yesterday and this morning I had a bunch of these rock looking things in my sand. Is this dried up food or something else?

It wouldn’t be dried up food under water

JK... Never see anything like that myself , anyway you can get a better picture? I’m sure others will chime in with ideas shortly.

No, I use to but I had to do some replunbing and have no replymved for that yet. It has been about 1 month.

It looks like carbon. Just my 0.02

Looks somewhat like chunks of carbon. Perhaps it was in your sandbed and got stirred up by something.

I personally wouldn't worry about it. If you are concerned, just siphon it out.

Ok, thanks. My husband will add my plumbing for the GFO and Carbon this weekend hopefully.

If they were sinking pellets, I am betting that overnight you had a massive uprising of either bristle worms or nassarius snails from the sand bed. They dislodged carbon that had gotten buried.

To find out, wait until after dark tonight, put some pellets in and then give it a few minutes and shine a flashlight in the tank.

You may be in for a bit of a shock.

I figured it out...my chemipure bag was being sucked into the pump. This out a hole in the bag and some of the chemipure got into the tank.
