Black Sand Question

depends totally on what it is, not all sands are sand, some of the man made black sand is too sharp for tiny critters and some of it is just an algae maker, black Tahitian moon sand is good, black beauty is iron slag with iron (great plant fertilizer)

i set up a 54g tank for my kid last summer, and i used black sand just to do something different. i have to say that i've been surprisingly happy with the way it looks.

I have 20lbs of black agronite sand made by caribsea in Mantis tank ... And looks pretty good still... But it does show a lot of detrius when I do a water change and mix the sand all around... But by the next morning, the nassarius snails have take care of that.. And it's back to black sand

It's also a 12g nano split in half... Two 2 inch mantis shrimps... Algae blenny, green chromis, two pin cushion sea urchins, cowry, turbo snail, few hermit crabs... And about 50 or Nassarius Snails...

I hope that helps...

i use Bio-Active and i'm pretty happy with it.It definitely makes the color of my corals on the sandbed stand out more.

I always wondered if the white sands reflective value for light makes any difference

I had a co-worker that went with black sand. He liked the look of it when it was clean, but said if he had to do it all over again he'd not go with the black. It was too much work to keep it looking good as others have mentioned.
