Ok I am ready to start my 240 trying to choose the right sand and been really pondering black sand love the look just been reading all the bad. It's magnetic it gets dirty easy it doesn't buff the pH . Stuff like that so I'm wondering Who has used Blacksand who likes Blacksand the reasons why in the reasons why you do not. Your experience and if you start over would you use that sand again? Thanks guys

I do love the look but it is not pretty when it is dirty either. Difficult to clean.

I'm thinking about the same exact thing in a 300 build I'm going to do. I will definitely be following this one.

I like the look of it. My local buddy had it and he hated it because how dirty it looked. My white sand got dirty though so...

It is especially striking with red and orange corals. There is a pebble that comes in black but I cant remember the brand. That one would be much easier to clean. The black sand is really almost impossible to clean. I have it in my 30g. It gets on my magnet and everything.
Would I use it again? No. I would go with the black pebbles.

I have had both and I like the look of black better. It is magnetic so I stay an inch away from it with my magnet scapper. Other things can buffer so no biggy. As for dirty I have sand sifters and don't see that as a problem. Dirt stands out on white not black. I never understood reefers who say this abouy black sand. It's like cloths get mud on white and boy you can tell... mud on black and the contrast between the 2 is less. Just my opinion. The other thing to take into consideration is black doesn't reflect light as well as white so your tank might not look as bright. I like this though, but some corals may not it all depends on the light setup.

I just Went and looked at 120 gallon was Blacksand and it looked amazing he said it was a year Old this and still look good he said he stirs his and vacuums I'm totally against that but it was only a two inch bed so I Kinda understand that.
I'm running ecotech Radeon Pro's so I'm not worry about insignificant lighting. I just want my dynamite chalice to stick out like a sore thumb lol.

I run the Hawaiian Black with no issues. Don't notice it being magnetic I get plans pieces in my glass scraper if I'm cleaning down in the sand but when cleaning the surface I have no issues either.

Ive ran it now for several years and never had it magnetize, I love the look of it and like stated white or black it all gets dirty. Biggest thing to remember this has NO buffers of any kind so you have to watch your params much closer and more check more often.

What about aragonite black sand it says that it does buff but I'm not to worried about that. Also post some pic of your beds. Lol with corals on it
