pros and cons? I prefer the look over normal sand would like to hear about some peoples experinces using it I'v done a lot of reading on this so first hand accounts would help!

I have it in my wifes 12g nano, looks fine and everything has done good the few months we have had it set up. All in all I like it, may consider going with it for my next large set up in the future.

it will be going in my new 27g cube I really like to look of it

Most of my sand is black but I used some established white sand when I set up my tank. Kind of looks like salt and pepper but with a lot more black than white. I think it looks good. You can see coralline algae growing on it.

I have it in my 150, and I love it. Have to be careful that you get the right one though. There is freshwater only black sand that is used for planted aquariums. Make sure it says fresh and marine.

I had it in a fish only and it looked sweet. I don't think I would use it in a reef though

I like the look of it, had the black moon sand for a dwarf octo- I liked the way colors popped against the black... I would do it again :)

can I ask why you wouldn't use it in a reef? any reason other then the look?

Yeah I too am wondering why you wouldn't use it in a reef?

I wonder if it is because of the same thing I considered not using it in the 12g for.... I have heard that the black isn't as reflective as the white sand for lighting so it seems darker and the light doesn't reflect back up to get the bottoms of corals..... Which I have noticed the bottoms of my corals in the black sand tank (although only a 12g) seem fine, and compared to the bottoms of the corals in my 180 that has white sand I don't notice a difference.

I will no longer run black sand in my system just for the fact that it is magnetic and can be a pain trying to clean the glass at the bottom of the tank.

I'm currently running black sand on my 10g it looks really nice, and I have no complaints so far, however I would like a horseshoe crab but I don't think he'd like it much.

+ 1. My nano is has black sand. Not so bad since a quick work with a toothbrush is all that's needed, but it was a big factor that made me switch back to white sand. I love black sand, but since researching there is no 100% magnetic free black sand, even the Caribsea Tahitian Moon Sand has some mixed reviews and some complaints about it being magnetic. Went with Tropic Eden and I couldn't be happier!
