Black shiny growth on candy cane.

I have this black shiny growth on the rock of my candy cane. I dont see any activity or negative effects on the coral but am curious..

Emerald crab is not an option, those things are little terrors. I had one and it would swipe at my fish as they passed and eat things I didnt want it to eat...
"Reef Safe".. Yeah right...
LFS Claimed, no they just clean the sand... pffft

So back to algae, i guess i could leave it covered with sand then and it will die eventually...
