Hi,

I have a 120gallon mixed reef. Many many zoas and they are all growing and thriving...

However..

I have one small frag (2 heads) that was bumped off its frag plug and reglued. Since then it has not reopened which I assume is because of the jostling and/or the glue at the base. It has been on there for about a week.

Over the week I have kept an eye on it and now I am noticing a black speck or two (no more than 2-3) that are crawling slowly over the closed zoa. I gave it a dip in ReVive and put it back and they are still there. I have googled around looking for an answer and seen many people asking but NO ONE has given an explanation on what this is..

Two questions:
- How long can a zoa frag that small live without opening?
- What the heck is this small mite sized black speck on the zoa? Its not a spider and I have never seen a pod like this either..

All other zoa's are doing just fine.

Any help would be appreciated!

It's not as large as the dark patch in this photo but you can barely see it on the end

Hard to see from this pictures.

Picture a mite sized black spec, that can move and is always found on the top of the closed zoa

Fresh Water dip my help?

Freshwater dip will probably kill the frag, that is if it's not already too late. The black speck is probably a pod of some kind eating the dying zoa.
Dipping in coral rx pro and shaking the frag usually knocks off pods.

Yeah it's not opening and hasn't for a while. What does a zoa do when it dies? Just shrivel, not open and disintegrate?
