Black spot on Fin

Bifuran needs to be dosed into a QT for sustained treatment.

If you are looking for a medicated bath that will help with infection, I would use this instead:

What dose of Bifuran would you recommend? I got a nice deal on a Nuvo 16 setup last weekend - it's my ne treatment tank. It should be ready Sunday.

Surprisingly best store in the area did have Acriflavine, they did say they used it in the past, but not in years. Do we have a good source?

Also provide nori/seaweed daily for the PB. It will definitely help fatten him up.

Did that for a few weeks with no visible change, most probably due to mentioned parasites. Picked up some live blackworms yesterday - that will be step 1, seaweed few weeks later as part of regular diet.

I'm more of a Furan-2 kinda guy (similar medication), but Hikari's instructions (below) seem reasonable to me:
As A Bath: As a bath treatment for external nitrofuran-susceptible, microbial diseases of marine and freshwater aquarium and pond fishes, use 1 capful (~9.7g) per 10 gallons of water. A partial or complete water change should be made just prior to beginning treatment and every 24 hours thereafter, followed by re-treatment. Any water used should first be conditioned with ULTIMATE or a combination of Liquid Buffered ClorAm-X and Stress-X to remove ammonia, chlorine and chloramines. Repeat the treatment every 24 hours for 5 to 7 days or until complete cessation of mortalities occurs. If improvement is not noted within three (3) days, discontinue treatment and consider other therapy.

I guess what they are calling a "bath" I refer to as in-tank treatment. The only change I would make is to repeat treatment every 24 hours for at least 10 days.

Small update. No luck with live blackworms unfortunately - they won't touch them... :( Almost done with medicated food - keep going or give it a rest for a little bit?

Humblefish - that’s this morning...

Go back to medicated food. Keep at it for 3 weeks (or longer) this time. Some strains of intestinal worms are very hard to eliminate. In fact, you may want to food soak API General Cure this time around. That contains both prazi + metro, in case these worms are resistant to metro but susceptible to prazi.

Thanks Humblefish - I will keep on going. Anything else I can add to this magic cocktail to get it once and for all? Kanaplex?

Kanaplex would only be effective against an internal infection. GC is your best option at this point.

Will do. Would you happen to have a guide on food soak with GC? What's the best way to get maximum mediation in to the food, and what would you say is the best good to go with? They are already finicky eaters...

I follow these instructions provided by Seachem Focus: http://www.seachem.com/focus.php
  • 1 scoop of medication if choice
  • 1 scoop Focus™
  • 1 tbsp food (preferably pellets or frozen food)
  • A few drops of water if using a dry food
To enhance palatability use with GarlicGuard™ or Entice™.

Except I use garlic extract from a grocery or health food store to increase palatability, if needed.
