So I'm going to admit I'm fairly new to the whole saltwater scene for fish health. A friend of mine has helped me along with a few other people to give me my knowledge base thus far. I need some more help though from someone who knows more about fish health than I do.

My purple firefish I have noticed formed a black spot on its side. Last I saw the firefish 2 days ago it was very puffy like it was swollen. Now I have a maroon goldstripe clown and I know I've seen them chase each other around the tank briefly but the clown usually stays in her own area which the fire fish don't go.

Corals I have: Frogspawn, Candy cane, Cactus Pavona, Palys, Monti, Hollywood stunner, GSP, and 2 Kenya trees. Could something have stung it? The fire fish was eating very well before he/she disappeared.

possibly a bruise like humble said. It's weird that it's black like that. Is it still eating and behaving normally now?

Looks like a bruise, probably from the maroon. They are some of the most aggressive clownfish around. How big is your DT?

Thanks for the reply. I have a 40g breeder. The fire fish were taunting the maroon at one point so it wouldn't surprise me that the clown struck. It was the bigger of the fire fish that's bruised too.

He / she still hasn't come out of the rock cave they stay in yet. We're pushing day 3. Hoping he didn't become a meal for the shrimp and snails. The firefish was eating properly before she disappeared. I figured maybe she's recovering in the rock, but now it being day 3 I'm getting concerned.

I've had firefish hide for weeks and then suddenly reappear. If the clownfish is responsible for that injury, the firefish is probably hiding out.

I appreciate it gives me a little peace of mind. Upset the maroon decided to bully one of them. But that's all by nature.

I agree entirely
