Hello everybody and happy new year!

My clownfish is covered with those black spots. It never happened to me before and I read contrasting opinions.

Do you have any experience?
Fish are behaving and eating normally.
They do not host any coral and I never saw them brushing to anything.

Thanks

If you are sure that there isn't any stinging corals, then the other most likely cause is Black Ich (aka turbellarians):

Spots are too large for black ich and the pattern is not compatible. I am inclined to believe it’s hyper-melanization, but with no apparent cause.

I'm inclined to believe my clown has the same thing. He's been acting almost normal, just been eating a bit less. I sent video to my LFS and he said don't treat, this is just hypermelanization. The spots are different sizes and appear to be below the surface of the skin. Anyone else with any thoughts?

Happens occasionally to my clown over the last 5 years I had him.. I don’t worry about it as it doesn’t seem to affect him in any way.

this basically happened to my mom's female clown. she eventually got annoyed by the clown biting her so she gave it to me to quarantine to clear up what we assumed was black ich. if memory serves the treatment is general cure? or maybe prazi or metro, but I used GC and when they were still there after 2 weeks in QT I asked humblefish and he said it's very likely just hypermelanization. so into a fowlr observation tank without coral it went and the spots slowly went away. there is still a little black on her so i guess that's scarring

the clown also never hosted any corals
