Black spots on my shrimp

Not sure what's going on hear... Got some spots developing on my cleaner shrimp... Any thoughts on what it is? Bacteria, or some kind of parasite?

It could be bacterial. Whens the last time you did a water change?

I am doing some research about it now I guess it is melanosis, cause by enzymes from the shrimp it self.
Got to love the FDA

The shrimp just mulched its skin also.
I have not changed the water in this tank, its a QT and not going to be more then 6 months. I may do a 50% change in 3 months, I'm running chemi-pure blue in this tank.

Ok. Typically the iodine in fresh water change can help with molting. But since he already molted, there is a good chance he has a disease. FWIW this shrimp typically only lives 3 years anyway. They are personable and entertaining and often times cheap. So in my perspective, not a huge lose if he does have issues.

Me too... can't find it either. But it was the same thing that is showing on your shrimp. Hopefully one that responded then will see your post and give you an answer!

It could just be a water quality issue. But all in all, molting usually cures it and Iodine will help trigger a molt. If not, you can wait for the outcome. In the mean time you could read up on Taura Syndrome. Not sure if it will help though. Good luck.

I think there is hope...I googled it and many have actually had it completely go away after a couple of molting times. Some say it is due to water conditions, but it seems there are many reasons for it... including the melanosis stuff in your article. I guess it's more of a wait and see thing.

I do have to admit that I don't have my lights on a timer, now that I think about it. I might be stressing out the shrimp. I do have a timer, just got to dig it out of a box.

It is vary possible it is Taura Syndrome

My two cleaner shrimps has a few black spots. Both are over a year old with the spots. When they molted they may lose it and sometimes they come back. Some say it's a black gill disease. Some say it's a bruising when they molt. While others say it's a virus or bacteria. My out come is they injury themself when they molt causing black spots. They can live a normal life. Some might die when they get caught in molting they shell. That can be from bad water condition. I wouldn't worry about it to much..
