Hi all,

I’ve noticed today my clown (only fish in the tank) has started to get some black spots around its right fin and back half of body. I only have 2 zoa frags in the tank so I don’t think it is a sting.

He seems happy enough and is still eating like a horse.

Does this look like black ich?

What do you have for coral? Do you notice your clown getting in/around any of it (especially LPS)? This looks like melanin from coral stings which is pretty common for a clown.

Looks like stings to me - I’ve seen zoas sting clowns on here before. Not as common as from a strong stinger like a torch, but all corals do have stinging cells that can hit a clown.

My clown has this problem. It started with 2 and now it has like 6 over his body. it eats good and looks healthy so im not worrying about it too much.. althought it sucks to have them.

If your clowns act normal and eats well it shouldnt be much of a problem. Thankfully my clown is turning darker and darker, found out that mine could be a mocha
