Black Sun Coral Pics?

thats a good idea actually and im glad you said something about the black sun corals, I honestly didnt even know what it was when my brother in law showed up with it and is like...here....it was 5 bucks. See if it grows. haha I just started feeding it like my regular sun corals.,
Then you are feeding enough for them. :)

I'd probably still target feed the black sun, though, just in case. I target feed mine NLS small fish pellets twice a week, about 1/4 teaspoon each time. Quick and easy. :)

Yep, it's a good start, a lot better than most people that get them and don't feed them thinking they're photosynthetic. ;)

MW said that the black suns need much more feeding and much more flow, as well, and mine didn't look to happy til I put it higher flow.

somehow in this weird bowfront my cave managed high flow and good mysis passing by when i dump it in, so i figured why not and glued them, they all seem to love it all day long. Im just lucky I think :)

There is a big colony at my lfs and it has been there for a few months that I am thinking about buying. I'm more than sure they don't spot feed it, it doesn't look amazing but its not dying either. Only $35. Yep, I do believe I'm gunna go pick it up pretty soon!

They remind me of ducans.
Same family.

I wouldn't risk it. Black suns need a rather large amount of food (even in comparison to other NPS), and if it hasn't been fed at least a couple of times per week and it has been there for a few months, it's probably not going to last much longer, even if you start feeding it heavily. Once they aren't fed for a while, they usually don't survive. The decline doesn't happen outwardly until the very end.

I had a large colony of the black with green tentacles...I knew they neede lots of food so at night I would take a 1 liter soda bottle with the bottom cut off...I would place it over the coral, push it into the sand and squeeze in food. I used different things, mysis, cyclops, oyster eggs and finely ground up fish. If you put a few small holes around the bottom of the bottle, it keeps the food in suspension around the coral...mine doubled size in about 7 months...I had to go to a 2 liter soda bottle. I sold it when I got out of the hobby due to moving. I am now getting ready to get back in. Right now I am getting everything I need...so far I have the tank, stand, lights, skimmer, sump. I just need a few more things and I will be good to go.

Still looking for some blacks. Just picked up these oranges to go with my yellow. You can train them to come our during the day by feeding at random times.

The black sun corals are simply magnificent. Pretty amazing how even though we always search for color, a black piece will also highlight and upgrade the look of a reef. I've never seen those but assume they are beautiful. I've had sun corals in the past, but the feeding of every single head turned me away due to maintenance being high. I now own sensors, which have fewer heads and easier to maintain..
