Black Tubastrea Feeding

I have had a Tubastrea aurea for a while in my low light reef. It is open during the day and eats everything. Recently a picked up a black T. micrantha that refuses to open. I have tried feeding everything from Reefroids to mysis and have yet to see a polyp. I have tried an hour after lights are off to an hour before lights go on. Nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

hi,try placing in high flow low light area ,see if that helps get it started,cannot stay though will strip tissue from skeleton,good luck, @Thespammailaccount any thoughts

Never had one but found this article. I generally get my orange sun ready for feeding by giving it reef roids so it will open and then feed mysis

I moved the black coral so that it got a higher water movement. No crazy flow, but an increase. I squirt my mixture of reefroids, brine shrimp and mysis several times a day. After three days, the polyps started to extend during the day. Thanks for the help.

The black coral is doing very well. Ever since I moved it to a spot with more flow, it is open almost all day. It is getting fed mysis and brine shrimp. The only downside is that the polyps that are away from flow don't get as much food as those facing the flow. How is that unknown goni?

That’s good, I wouldn’t worry too much about the few polyps you can’t reach. I have found with T. micrantha the food is shared throughout the colony unlike other sun corals. If you don’t feed every polyp of other sun corals over time they will recede.

The gorgonian? Yeah it’s fine. Not much growth yet but still alive.
