Black worms source?

Has anyone found a reliable source of black worms that Paul B feeds? Thanks .

Without question, California Blackworm.....in the link above from @Humblefish .

My last order was for frozen. Wife's not crazy about live worms in the refrigerator. I believe they did have a shortage about a year or so ago, but are now able to supply live worms.

If you wish, you can set up your own breeding tank....just google and I'm sure you'll find the info.....and seed it with California worms.

Yup I buy from them regularly. Great customer service. Keep refrigerated. Buy only as many as you can feed in 1-2 weeks. After one week you need to rinse in very cold water daily to keep them from all dying. I buy 1/2lb for all of my fish

You can also get them from Segrest Farms, if a LFS near you uses them. Segrest is mostly a FW wholesaler but they also carry some SW livestock.

Rinse them out daily, and they'll last for a month or more.

I've tried this but they die in less than a week in the summer. Tap water is not cold enough and if anything I think it shortens their life span. I've been buying them every week or every other week for about 6 months now, this system seems to keep them best in summer. If you have easy access to really cold water it may work better. I always had trouble draining out the water and I'm lazy and didn't have the time to screw with it for 20 minutes per day.

If anyone comes up with a better system by all means! LOL

Also buy the worm keeper from California....and everyday put a fresh jug of water in the refrigerator for tomorrows water change. You should easily get a month out of the worms this way.

Are you keeping them refrigerated? Are you using a dechlorinator for the tap water? I bring some back from New Orleans from time to time. I rinse them daily using "spring water" from a local grocery store. I keep the spring water in the fridge as well. They have lasted me 2-3 months doing it this way.

What type of fish are you feeding with these black worms? And is there a benefit over more traditional fish foods.

Live blackworms are:

High in protein
Good meaty food for carnivorous fish (angels, butterflies) but almost all fish will eat it
Good "starter food" for finicky species such as CBB & Moorish Idols; even Mandarins will sometimes eat it
