I am curious as to why you scrubbed the bio-balls though. It's my understanding that you don't want to clean bio-balls as their soul purpose is to colonize with bacteria. Seems like scrubbing them would defeat their purpose.
I washed them twice with hot water once before and after the ammonia bath. The soak was three days ago and has netted a better growth since then. I'm not really that concerned by this growth so much as I'm pondering why this hasn't happened sooner.
yeah, you're right mushroom boy. the wash eliminated portions of the colony and allowed the growth.
On a side note, If I don't test my colony how do I know it actually matured? (Rhetorical). I have evidence, including the detached hair algae, that the cycle has occurred.
Well, I went and got my first part of the CUC today and had the LFS confirm my parameters which they said looked GREAT! [emoji106][emoji41]
Super happy about that.
I got a red legged crab, emerald crab, and a fire shrimp. The fire shrimp ran circles throughout the drip-cycle and looked like he was bathing in the fresh drip water. At least i also know they have some algae now too. [emoji2][emoji226][emoji224]
Really happy to note as of three hours ago I noticed the color of the scarlet and emerald crab has returned. Very encouraged! Shrimp is perky as noted. QT is looking good. Only two more weeks...[emoji3]
Excited to introduce these guys to the QT this morning! These three are blue Chromis and all seem to be healthy and strong. One tried to make me almost attempt a rescue by getting cought in the filter return vortex.
I just turned it off and he swam back to the crew.
They are one inch each and already have a hierarchy. 3 weeks to find out if they are strong enough, and 4 weeks till they make the tank.
