There comes a time in this hobby when we all get a little bit bored. I had a tank with lots of coral that was doing just fine. I felt like I needed a little more movement, so I started buying more fish. I bought another 2 bartletts, a mystery wrasse, a tomini tang, and a one spot rabbit fish to go in my 55 gallon tank, over a couple years of course. I realized that I really liked having the herbivores in the tank. I never knew what I was missing out on all these years because they do a great job on algae. I still wanted more fish, and 9 fish in a 55 gallon was already pushing it. So my journey begins, my eyes started to wander, and I started looking at other tanks..... so many possibilities...

Well it's almost Black Friday and I'm checking out the LFS. They have their sales posted and I notice they have a 93 gallon cube and stand on sale. I put it on hold, but I wasn't completely sure about it. The stand was just so short. Well, I guess I got over it!

Part of the reason I chose the 93 gallon was that I could use a lot of the equipment that I already have. I did decide on a couple new toys, an Apex and a new skimmer, reef octopus dcs 150. I emptied my old tank and dumped everything in the 93 gallon. I had plans to work on scape but it never quite happened that way. Just dump everything in :-)

Looks great already. Helps to have corals from another tank to put right in. I like short stands because the top down view is my favorite when looks at coral.

About a week or so after the move, I notice something that doesn't quite look right...

Marineland agrees to replace the tank and I get a new one to start all over again. FUN FUN!!

and a little leak!

So now it's just a waiting game. The coral needs to get comfortable again. I already bought a new fish..... I know, I know, I really shouldn't have but oh well.

Thanks, I took that iphone shot right before taking it down for the 2nd move. The short stand is growing on me, it just really limits my skimmer options.

Looks great!!

So you had the new tank leak twice?

Thanks... the 100 gallon rubbermaid tub leaked at the drain plug and the 93 gallon cube had a bad seam. The seam on the cube did not leak, but it looked like bad news was coming soon. I am glad marineland didn't give me too much trouble replacing the tank. It obviously sucked to move my coral and fish around so much. I fragged quite a few corals by accident.

I picked up 2 blue reefbrites for additional coverage and pop. So far I like the look, I guess I will have to wait and see how the corals respond. I was hoping that the reefbrites would add some shimmer, but no dice.

Sweet! Another 93 cube. I'm very close to being done with my build. Waiting on my overflow box and then I'm putting water in it.

Wow, it's been a while since I updated this thread, almost 2 years. I am afraid to say it didn't end well. The tank did great until around May 2014. (I wish I had pictures of the tank. Sadly, the last pictures I have were early to mid-March.) So in May, some acros started to look a little off then one by one rtn, Stn, rtn, Stn. Of course this is over a period of months and "parameters" looked fine the entire time. I tried polyfilter, carbon, everything. The only thing that somewhat slowed its progress was very frequent water changes and that got old. everything except for lps was affected, even montis were bruised and battered.

Next, we buy a house and I move the tank. I hoped that the large water change would help and I even added sand. No dice, the decimation continued. I have a yellow brown porites(I've had since 2004) that is basically bulletproof start to show wear and tear.

Eventually, things turned around..slowly but it was at a cost. Only 2 acros from that tank live today. It was so close to being just one.

More to come later, ...more "fun"
