Blackout in my tank.... how long.

I’ve had some ugly growth in my display tank, I can’t be too sure what it is. It’s still in the ugly stage 4 months in so probably all the uglies all at once. Diatoms, algae, dinos, So I’ve gone for the blackout, how ting would everyone suggest?
I’ve only got a few test corals in, 2 euphylia, some Xenia and GSP.

how long would you guys blackout?

A blackout of the tank, doesn't require you to wrap the tank up. lol

it just refers to not turning the lights on. From your pics, I see nothing in that tank that would warrent a blackout period.

With that said, typical blackouts are 24 to 48 hours.

I only used a blanket because I don’t have any card, it’s a 6 foot tank. The blanket just cuts the outside light out. The photos don’t really show the problems I’m having very well. It’s stringy and hairy that sway with the wave makers that looks terrible, and it was all inside my sump too. All cleaned now, just want to have a few days to prevent a bounce back the beat I can.
I’ll take a look inside at the 48 hour point then and see how it’s looking.

Again, no need to wrap the tank. Ambient light will do nothing.

Have a read through the Algae forum. Plenty of ideas to get rid of GHA(if thats what you truly have?), and none require you to blackout the tank. Blackouts for algae just hide the problem. The algae dies from lack of light, but returns when the lights are turned back on.

Your better off identifying the algae, using ways to rid yourself of the problem, then just masking it with a blackout.
