Blackout to Kill Unwanted Zoas

So I have some 3+ year old LR with a bluish colored zoa on them and I want to keep the LR with all the good critters (sponges, mini brittlestars, pods, etc) on them.

I've read about using aiptasia x, scraping the rocks, etc. I did scrape some of them off, and I try some of the F aiptasia and it did kill the zoas, but spiked my Alk and did do some damage to my other corals.

I was thinking if I was to take the LR and put them in a bucket with SW with no light, will the zoas just die off? If so, how long would this take?

I have a 5 gallon bucket connected at the end of my AWC that gets flushed out each day with the 5 gallon water change I'm doing on my larger setup. If I put the rocks in there, any die off, would get flushed out on a daily basis. So would this work?

I put my rock with zoas on them in a bucket with no lights for 2 months and when I put the rock back into my new set up the zoas were still alive.

What about zapping them with a Majano Wand? That may do it.

I have a 5W laser. I could hear them popping and crackling. A few days later they opened back up. Lol. They are tough to kill.

I was just watching videos with those... lol. Kind of want to get one now. Although I would definitely worry about what it's doing to the poor fishes' eyeballs.

I guess I will need to go the scrape and F aiptasia route. I need to remove all the other corals first so the ALK spike doesn't kill them.

Fish seem to scatter when the laser is on. It works great for aiptasia. You can almost hear them screaming in pain as they disintegrate. I found that my peppermint made short work of what was left. I got mine on Amazon for $54. It takes a few weeks for it to ship from China, but it works.

Why not do the f-aiptasia in a bucket, then reintroduce the rock back after you're done? You won't care if the alk spikes in the bucket.

That's a great idea. That f aiptasia forms a hard shell. Once it forms that shell I can move it back.

40 breeder. I used 2 syringes. Box had no warnings. ALK went from 8.1 to 10.4. Toasted my Monti's. I've used aiptasia x before without any issues.

Whenever I want to slow down the spreading of some palys and zoas, I simply use Tunze Coral Gum. Just create flat pancakes, press them on top of zoas, does the job.

The 5W laser works really well. The rechargeable batteries don't last very long, but you can fry a lot in a few minutes. The key is adjusting the laser beam. If it is adjusted correctly, the aiptasia sizzles quickly. Now that I'm down to just a few. It's easy to keep them under control. My peppermint shrimp will find the sizzled aiptasia and finish the cleanup work.
