I had a nitrate spike in my tank .I am currently working to get that level down .I now have a ton of green hair alge.I want to black the tank out from what i have learned on the internet .What are you thoughts on this ?It is a reef tank .

Getting lazier and lazier with upkeep!
Scrub off the GHA with a brush and increase your CUC while you work to bring down the nitrates/nutrients (water changes)...not sure how long of a blackout would be needed to clear out the GHA. Plus, the dying GHA will release more nutrients into the water. Seems kind of counter-productive.
