6 months ago we got a couple Duncan’s and blastos with 2-3 heads. In the last couple months these 2 have added new heads almost daily but don’t seem to be opening fully anymore. Is there anything special I should be doing for them?

Do you target feed them? We target feed ours. They are s.l.o.w. to grab food, so I've also got to turn off ALL pumps and ideally something fish don't want to steal (ha) or when fish are asleep (but then I like to be asleep too). Easy Reef makes LPS pellets but there are so many things / options even powders mixed thick and applied with tube/syringe. Light alone isn't enough food for mine.

Is this a recent problem?
we need more info such as parameters, flow lightning etc…

I would not say it is a problem, these 2 just seems to be growing heads too fast. We feed AB+ 5 out of 7 days a week. The others look fine but only have 6-10 heads. These have a couple dozen.

would need many more details about your tank, we can't just guess why the corals are not opening, can be dozens of different reasons

Sorry I guess I did not communicate well enough. I am wondering why these two would have exploded with heads. All the other frags in the tank are doing well so I highly doubt it is a water quality or feeding issue. Either way, thanks for all the replies. Merry Christmas.

In case it helps my duncans both went through phases: No heads -> explosion -> sulking period -> repeat. They definitely are better when I take the time to target feed a shrimp or two.

Do you feed each head or just a few? can they pull nutrient from others?

Duncan’s (especially Duncan’s) and blastos grow fast in any tank so it’s nothing special.
The way they looks like something is irritating them, you said they are not opening fully *anymore*. Hence there must be something irritating them I think it might be too much flow.
