Blasto welsi stung- can I save it?

Hello everyone!

I have this awesome blasto that beat the odds before and hoping it can id do it again- past time the package it was gost lost for 5 days and somehow It made practically unscathed. Recently it was stung by a ricordia yuma ( that has since been moved) and although it was showing signs of recovering it appears to be taking a turn for the worse.

another welsi I have got stung by the same yuma for a lot longer and it never receded as much as this one did, I’m kind of at a lost why one is un phased and one is receding. So far I’ve just been leaving it be with occasional feedings and it was making progress however the past few days it has been looking really receded. I’m thinking of picking up an iodone dip (seachems reef dip is the only one available right now) is that a good course of action or is there anything else I can do? I’ll check parameters when I get home later tonight but all other corals in the tank look good.

as you can see all the other balstos are fine, not sure why this guy took it so much worse. Attached is a before and now photo.

100% would iodine dip, if it has tissue necrosis I usually learn towards bacterial infection. Also, how often are you feeding, every other day or so?

Edit: is it receding or is the flesh dissappearing?

I got the iodine dip today so I’ll do that once I get home, the tissue at the point of contact has disappeared and it has since slightly receded although it did seem to grow back a little tissue at one point. It was still fluffier than than the recent photo until about 2 days ago when it started to cling to it skeleton.

feeding is one Vitalis lps pellet a week for all my lps that accept it.

I got the iodine dip today so I’ll do that once I get home, the tissue at the point of contact has disappeared and it has since slightly receded although it did seem to grow back a little tissue at one point. It was still fluffier than than the recent photo until about 2 days ago when it started to cling to it skeleton.

Do the dip, if its bacterial that could nip that in the bud. Is it still eating?

Will do, it was eating up until 2 days ago, it didn’t take the pellet I offered yesterday.

Hi those Yuma’s can be aggressive this is a photo of some I had in my first tank a 12 gallon it got nuked during a power outage about 3 years ago.

Yeah they are pretty potent- I never read anything about their sting so figured it would be rather superficial and I really thought there was enough space between them, I had no idea how far the could stretch either! I’m doing a water change on this tank tonight and will be moving onto the ground off the frag rack, the amount they move around on their frag plug is insane!

Update: I did a 15 minute dip in seachems reef dip and it seems to have just made the coral worse unfortunately. It may have been to far done when Started it though, is there anything else I can try or should I just leave it and pray to the coral gods?

so what might have caused this is gut rot the coral was healing alil reef roids or small particle would be alright but anything bigger than that and the coral may not have the strength to digest in which case give it afew days to rest olny feed every three days

My blasto fell Into a large wall hammer 2 weeks ago. I came home from work and literally found the blasto mouth to mouth with the hammer. Took it out dipped it a few times and it finally open up again a few days ago. Last night before the lights went out it was fully open.

In my experience blastos are very hardy corals and can take a bit of abuse.

It's not looking too good in that photo, I wouldn't try and feed it but instead dip it every day and then soak it for 15 mins in some amino acids like red sea ab+. Also make sure the the PAR is not to high for it in its new position. An increase in PAR now will just stres it further, I normally try and slightly reduce the PAR on corals that are in recovery.

I'll lower the lights intensity just to be safe, not sure what aminos are available to me and not sure if I could get any in time. I'll get a picture of it today but it looks even worse. I use coral RX, the aminos that work well are red sea AB+ just take it out and soak it in a diluted mixture for about 15 minutes every day. If there is still flesh there is still a chance it will recover

Are there instructions for diluting it for a dip or is there a ratio you recommend? I can pick some up tomorrow. Would you favor Coralrx over an iodine dip?
