Bleach bath for dry rock, use RODI or Tap?

Safe to use tap when im doing a bleach bath/ rinse before sticking outside to dry in the sun? Ive got several hundred pounds to start livening up to sell off to local reefers, and didnt want to exhaust my resin if i didnt have to.

The tap is adding heavy metals to the rock, so that’s kind of screwing over the next reefer that gets those rocks. I would use RODI or at least RO, charge more to compensate filter usage, label them as cleaned with rodi, I would personally pay a premium for that, that saves people a whole few-day step when cycling the rock.

When I bleached my rock, I used tap water. My local TDS is usually only 120, so I really wasn't concerned. To be honest, I would actually make use of the wastewater from your RODI system and just use that Metals aren't going to precipitate from the water and chlorine obviously isn't something to worry about considering bleach is being added. I would still make sure that all the water is completely able to drain out from the pores of the rock once you're done.

I used tap for my acid and bleach baths. I followed this with two soaks in RODI water to remove any contaminants just in case.

There would have to be some serious contaminants in your tap water to taint the rock...


Tap water and bleach is just fine for nuking rock.

My TDS is really really low coming out per my TDS meter. Ill be using RODI once i liven it again, basically, just looking to nuke it, then rinse it, then sun bake it really. Then into rodi to cycle before sale.

you know thats not a bad idea. I have a big trashcan i capture that in, as i dont have a good way of draining it. I usually dump my dehumidifier in there too, but i could stop doing that for a few batches.

i always assumed that mine was, and i checked it for giggles once and it was super low. head scratching low, so i kept an eye on it. I guess i just have good city water.

When I nuked some rock to kill a poci infestation, I did a 48 hour bleach soak followed by a 24 hour soak in freshwater with half a small bottle of prime. Then pressure washed and let completely dry.

Straight pressure washer eh? No soaps? I like that idea.. then sun bake for good measure??

Just straight pressure wash. No soap or additives. I didn’t even sun bake, just let it dry out. The chlorine will naturally gas off in a day or so.

That may work out.. I often wondered if the sun baking really did anything, or just needed to dry in someway. Winters in the south means no sun and lots of rain so.. I was trying to find a way LOL.
