I was wondering which kind of bleach is ok for filter socks? I read that it needs to have no additives or dyes but every bleach I have looked at says x-% sodium hypochlorite x-% other ingredients. Is this ok to use?

I never use thick bleach just the cheaper thin watery type as it's much easier to rinse off after.

I use reg bleach. Socks soak in a bucket with water and a little bleach, when I'm down to my last sock I run them through the washing machine twice to rinse off and let them dry before using.

I moved over to the mesh filter socks and don't have to worry about bleaching anymore. Just rinse and replace. Just an idea ....

Do you find they need more or less frequent cleaning? What micron are they?

They come 100-400 micron
They also have 7 inch filter socks if that's what you need. Also bulk reef supply has them but I think just in 100-200 micron..

Many newer bleaches contain fragrances to hide the clorine smell (i.e.; lavender, linen, lemon, etc.). It's probably best to avoid these scented bleach varieties.

Question- do you have to bleach? I turn mine inside out and power wash them which gets rid of all the visible however there is a slight "Marine" smell after.

I use bleach hot water extra rinse then if they still have the smell of bleach when you remove them placed them in the sun on a good clear day and that will continue to dissipate the smell
