Hello reefers,

Took in an acan that is very bleached. After being in my tank for a couple of months, its still bleached, but looks to be growing. Havent seen any new growth since, but it has me wondering if it does have new growth, would it be bleached or normal? Is there any chance the coloration could come back after being in my tank with proper lighting and parameters? Appreciate all the help.

Could be a white color variant. Is it completely white, is their any color at all?
Also acans don’t rely as much on the space zooaxenthellea as they do actually consuming proteins like mysis and pellets. Acans like low light as well. Also check out white encrusting zoanthids and make sure it isn’t one of those. However with a little tlc, feeding, low to medium flow, and low to medium light it’ll bounce back.

they usually bleach fast and take longer time to recover, but it will eventually come back if all parms are good, do you have PAR reading for your tank as Acans don’t require high lighting?

They are currently in a system with only 2-T5 bulbs, and it sits near the bottom. The flow down there is medium-low. I’m not sure as to the color as I have always had it bleached. I will try and grab a picture tomorrow to see your thoughts. Would target feeding reef roids twice a week help with this?

T5’s especially old ones are pretty good lights for acans. I’d give it mysis or pellets like fauna marine lps medium pellets. Sounds like flow and light is great. Just feed every week once or twice a week in the evening and your set

“Laughs in par”. I’ll get my Radion g5 blue. What you got? A buncha old T5’s? LOL you won’t stand a chance.
Radions are yesterday’s news. I’m going with a new and improved 6 bulb T-5... probably won’t even have to run them all to be comparable to those dusty old radions
