I have 60 lbs of dry rock that I have bleached, and soaked in rodi after w prime. Now is drying out in the sun
Is there any need to cure in saltwater or is it ready to be in a new tank to cycle w
Thanks

They should be fine, just keep an eye on your parameters after you add them to the tank for the initial cycle.

Should be good to go, but I would inspect all of the rock closely to make sure the bleach didn't leave anything behind.
What source of bacteria do you plan on using?

It still will "cure". The bleaching step did a jump start on the cure by helping to hydrolyze the dead stuff in the rock.....but it stills needs a bit more of curing. This can occur at the same time as the cycle. Need to monitor nitrates and phosphates and perform water changes as needed (when N's and P's are high). Continue with water changes (maybe weekly) until N's and P's no longer climb, and reach a level that makes you happy. :D

I’m thinking of bio spire or dr Tim’s
Which do you recommend

Great thankyou very much

I would suggest curing in RO/DI for at least a couple of weeks mostly to see what level of Phosphate may leach from the rock. Then go from there. I would not use tap as it often has very high Phosphate levels. You could do this in the tank as well and even with saltwater. I cured my dry rock about two months after bleaching before cycling in saltwater.

I just did my 233 over with dry bleached rock ( 5 months ago).
I used Dr Tims One and Only and also bought the ammonia.
No issues with phosphate?
How was your experience w dr Tim’s

Doesn't appear to be. I don't test much. IMO you just end up chasing numbers.

I have a large refugium and a large skimmer. Seems to be doing just fine.
Have some diatoms, but not worried about it.

Dr. Tims did the complete cycle in 2 weeks.
So I'm happy with it

Like everything in reefing..... it depends. I had dry rock that was really pretty. It had a considerably amount of dried organics on it. I used a bleach soak on the rock that mostly removed the organics. So I cycled the rock in the tank. The rock leached phosphates and I fooled around with phosphates for some time. I would have been better off curing the rock in seawater and testing for phosphates and using water changes until it was gone.

Some dry rock has this issue and some doesn’t. A bleach cure does not take long and is easy to do. It is cheap insurance.
