After a good deal of searching, and receiving plenty of runaround by online venders, I located a gig in the humblest of places after a great recommendation from a forum member. Honestly, the store owner really didn’t know what he had and I lucked out and picked up a bleached purple? gig. The specimen seems very healthy other than being bleached. It is currently being housed in a 10 gallon QT tank to wait and see if it requires antibiotic treatment. Do you guys think I should just start treatment now instead of waiting?

He does not look completely bleached and should be OK given good and stable condition. From the look, and if you can confirm that he have been in captivity for several weeks, then he should be fine in DT, especially if he have not deflated in the last 24 hrs and you don't have any anemone, especially Gigantea in the DT.
Good luck with this anemone. Lokks like he will be beautiful.

Thanks a lot for the help everyone. So no antibiotic treatment until I see it deflate, right? What would be the harm in treating now just to be safe?

Gig still looking good after 24 hours. A little closed after I turned the light off. Still have not treated with antibiotics. Waiting on you guys to let me know what you think about starting treatment with no signs of deflation. Please note that mouth is still closed tight.

Decided to treat the gig with antibiotics. Today is the second night of treatment. I stuck my hand in the QT tank to feel for stickiness last night and found that the gig

was no longer sticky. I have limited experience with gigs, but have kept several haddoni. The non stickiness factor always lead to death march unless treated. Gig is already looking better tonight.

Gig decided to move a lot last night. He has crammed himself in the corner of the egg-crate and the tank. Will do another water change and treat after lights off. This will be the 3rd dose.

To spice up this boring treatment thread, here’s a pic of my haddoni tank. Almost lost the big blue one last month due to a new addition having a pathogen that the first round of antibiotics didn’t kill. Had to take everyone out and treat, but everything is back to normal now! That goodness! I’ve had the large one for some time.

The gig is pretty fluffy this morning. All the animals I’ve treated seem to show great improvement after the 3rd treatment for whatever reason. It is really bleached, unfortunately. When I move it to the DT. I’m thinking about suspending a basket in the tank close to the surface to allow me to feed it easily and blast it with light.

Looking good. My gig was treated the full 7 days and then kept in QT for a few extra days to ensure its health. Mine was also bleached, but recovered after a few months with regular feeding. Good luck!

5th treatment last night. I moved the gig to a rock from the DT. He was still perched there this morning. He is very sticky again and seems to be regaining some lost color. Please note that I am not using Cipro for this treatment, but rather Cephalexin.

6th treatment last nigh. Gig is the same as yesterday morning. I will be moving the gig to its display tank tomorrow evening. Thinking about putting it in a basket close to the top of the tank for a little while to keep our skunks off it until it has some time to settle in and eat a little bit. What do you guys think?

Also, no water change last night due to sheer laziness.

Gig finally made his way into the display tank this evening. Going to use this thread to track his progress. Will wait a bit a week to start feeding the dude. Check out the little male skunk lurking in the toadstool in the background. The pair has been homeless for a while since the passing of the former gig. Now that I’ve got this treatment down, I hope to not have that happen again.
