Need a chemistry expert.. Randy.. what happens to bleach once it is dry.. I ask this as many I use filter socks.. I clean them by running in the wash, rinse and rinse.. the wash cycle has a bit of bleach in it. I then let them dry a bit.. soak in a bucket of RO Water with some declorinator and dry again..

I would like to skip the ro/di rinse bucket routine..

What happens to any bleach left in the sock once it drys.. ?

I clean mine with just a hot water cycle and it works well.
I did use 34% h2o2 for awhile but the hot water cycle works just as well.
Even if you run the h2o2 you only need to dry them after the wash.
You can air dry in the sumer and use the dryer in the winter or just rinse cycle amd bring inside to dry.
Using bleach and a rinse cycle and letting air dry works just as well.
I now prefer using as little chems as posiible when appropriate.

If bleach is not completely rinsed out of the sock a residue will be left behind. It will not evaporate like chlorine.
This is why I do not use it.

I’ve been using plain bleach and letting the socks dry for a few days with no issue.

Good to know about this, I’ll probably now do another quick cycle in the wash just to rinse.

Been using bleach for years with my socks. I use a 5G bucket, dump quite bit of bleach in, and throw my socks through out the month in there(I have lots). I then just throw them in the washer, no soap, run a normal cycle, let air dry and reuse.

Been doing it this way for years with no issue.

So they are sitting in bleach water for quite some time. Interesting.

Save yourself the worry and wash the socks without the beach.

I just warm water cycle- no bleach, nothing and allow to air dry

I rinse my socks well when I replace them. I was them with a small amount of bleach, like maybe a tablespoon. When they’re done I run through a second full wash cycle and then air dry. I’ve never had a problem.

Since everyone is sharing, I do:
Regular wash cycle hot + pre-wash + extra rinse
OxyClean in the drum (pre-wash)
Bleach in the dispenser
Spin gets them mostly dry
Then they sit on the shelf for a few weeks until it’s their turn on rotation again.

I run in washing machine lots of bleach on hot then run again on hot no bleach and dry on a table have always done it like this with no problem. Do not put in dryer most people run fabric softener that can contaminate socks

Is it common practice to turn them inside out during wash?

i do.. as if I do not.. there tends to be a bit of let overs in there...
