I am wanting to know if a bleaching BTA is a death sentence? I have a LFS that has a tank full of RBTA's that have bleached(overnight) and I was wondering if it would be worth it to get them from him and try to bring them back. He says they are going to die and there is nothing he can do about it. I really don't believe it!

Well if he thinks they are going t die then tell him you will take them for free. You can try and nurse them back to health, depending on how bleached they are, but chances of survival are probably not too high. Bleaching can also point to other serious health issues, more then just lighting. Good luck, if you do get them you should start a thread so we can follow your progress or just continue this one.

Bta's are pretty tough and I've saw them come back from a lot including going through a power head, so bleaching isn't the worst thing that can happen. As said before if it bleached overnight then there is something more wrong than just lighting in less its crazy high. Its probably water quality. If you can get them at a discounted rate i'd take the chance on them. Treating bleaching when moved to proper water quality is pretty easy and survival is a good possibility. Just put it in a lower flow area and medium light, and after a week or so when it settles in start feeding it meaty foods the size of peas. I've saw a lot come back from bleaching and working on a lta that was in a petco tank for 3 weeks that was bleached white. Its now has a green tint and grow back nicely

Go to him and tell him that you'll take them and try to bring them back and whatever lives you'll give him 50% of them back but you pick which one's you keep.

I agree with everyone else, a bleached BTA is in no way a death sentence. Just give them the proper water conditions and lighting with some feedings and you'll probably bring most of them back.

And post pic's of your progress!
