Just bought a beautiful cyphastrea, came home did my normal routine with dipping with Red Sea Dip, 2 rinses after and instantly noticed a small spot of white pop up, acclimated to tank, all water chemistry seems perfect. Anyone had any of the same issues with dip?

I’ve Never had an issue with this but if it really was your dip then let it recover, it’ll be fine with time.

with that said, did you use the recommended quantity of dip and for the recommended time? I use Revive coral dip, but I’ve used 2-3x the recommended, amount always for around 5 minutes, and never had any issues with the dip hurting my corals. May not have been the dip… i don’t know.

Used the right dose, the white spots appeared within a minute or so. I’ve always used the Red Sea dip, just seems very odd to me? Any idea if if Red Sea dip is somehow harmful against cyphastrea?

I’ve lost hundreds in acros not knowing what had been the issue but I’ve had several sps end up like that instantly…well, the next day at least. I started a thread over the weekend asking about it and a lot of great questions were asked. It ended with Red Sea Dip-X being the possible culprit.
I’d be willing to try Revive but I have Bayer also and plan on doing that from now on

This is interesting. I got a meteor shower a few weeks ago and overnight from when I put it in my tank it took a total nose dive. Looked great when I got it and in the morning it had lost nearly all of it's flesh. It's since regrown the tissue but almost no PE and color is still terrible except for the non-extended polyps.

I assumed it was due to being bleached out under my LEDs although I had it on the sand. Now I'm wondering if it was the dip. I also used Red Sea DipX per instructions on dilution and actually a few minutes less than the stated 15. No other coral from that LFS, under the same light, has ever had any other issue. The miyagi tort I got at the same time is doing fine.

This was my cyphastrea in the morning after putting it in.

i have noticed this also with Redsea dip, where now i don't trust it and won't use it...and yes i even went the route of a lesser dose than recommended..

I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who has experienced this! Looks like I’m tossing the bottle

Yeah this is a very interesting thread. Never heard of this issue but clearly you’re not the only one, too many coincidences for something to not be going on.

with that said, I highly recommend Revive. No issues noticed with corals but I’ve seen it giving hitchhikers a bad day.

Also after realizing multiple people have experienced this, a email was sent to Red Sea asking for their input. Very curious to see
I would try a short iodine dip for the cyphastrea... May not help, but probably can't hurt at this point.

Strai

Straight iodine or diluted? I’ve got a couple of acros hanging on. Trying to at least
Diluted! There are many posts/threads as well as info elsewhere on the web, but my standard "recipe" is to add 1-2 drops at a time to a container of tank water until it's the color of tea... dark, but light enough that you can easily see anything in the container. It doesn't take much... if it's too dark just add more water to dilute.
I dip for 10-15 minutes and then place the coral back in the tank.
