I hose down the filter sock and then into a bucket of water with just a little bleach. Once I'm down to the last sock ( 10 total ) they go into the washer for a rinse and then air dried for a couple of days.

Bleach evaporates. If you bleach and rinse, there could still be bleach being put into your system unless they are thoroughly dry. I wash mine inside out with just bleach in the dispenser and set it to extra rinse. Then air dry for at least a day before they go back in the sump.Im curious if drying is even necessary in a big tank?
Also how much bleach do i need to use? It seems im using a ton for 3 socks.

For what it’s worth. After soaking / cleaning in bleach I soak/rinse the socks in clear water and add some Seachem prime to remove any chlorine / chloramines that may be left behind. Then a final rinse. Simply gives me peace of mind.Bleach evaporates. If they’re dry, there’s no bleach to put in your system.
But do they even clean the tank much? Does your tank get crystal clear water?I have since moved on to mesh socks instead and are by far the easiest to clean. A quick rinse in the laundry sink with a little scrubbing, let them sit for few hours and they're dry and ready to go.
They go from 50 up to 400 micron. My water is crystal clear. But do they even clean the tank much? Does your tank get crystal clear water?
I use the RS 250 mesh and they work very well. I guess I could break out the felt ones for a little extra polish but I have never looked at it with the 250s and thought it needs a little polish. The felt ones are such a pain to clean all the way. I also think any thing under 250 the SPS might want to eat?But do they even clean the tank much? Does your tank get crystal clear water?
