I can't figure out if my green birds nest is bleaching or if it has RTN. It started getting white at the base about a month ago. And it has spread. I've moved it around several times trying to find a good spot but the white progressed. Lately it has gotten worse which makes me think it's RTN. The polyps disappeared where the white was. I decided last to start fragging the branches in an attempt to save some of it. I don't think the main colony is going come back. There are days where the branches look awesome but the white keeps coming. It all started when my alk got up to 10. You can see the main colony next to my frags.

I say STN. RTN can wipe out a colony over night or very quickly. I consider birdsnest to be the Canary coral of the SPS world as they are generally the frist to show signs of alk swings or unstable chemistry

Yea it looks like RTN/STN. I just had that issue with my tank, my ALK went from 8.5 to 9 over night and I had my orange passion, ORA Laura's purple polyp, Pearlberry and a few others RTN overnight. I am pretty bummed as well. Hopefully the frags to well and continue to grow. just make sure that when you lower the alk that you do it slowly. What I did was turned my doser off this morning and will see what it is at when I get home from work. I like to keep my ALK between 8.3-8.5.

Would it be wise to think the colony will just keep dying and I should just frag as much as I can?
