If I were to reuse live rock I had in my old tank but wanted it to be completely dead, could I just go through the process online of bleaching live rock and that would kill off any vermentid snails?
Would the actual "shells" break off or disappear or will they still be there but just dead?

Figured instead of buying new dry rock and starting fresh, I just kill all my live rock?

Would you recommend doing it, or less of a headache to just buy new? I am in no rush, so the rock would sit in bleach for a few days then be rinsed and dried in the sun for a few weeks.

Thanks

The shells will still be on the rock after the vermetids die. Just take a needle nose pliers and pop them off.

I should have also asked, for live rock that maybe I don't want to kill off but do have snails, would another option be put them in saltwater and just leave them as is. No feeding or anything, would that eventually kill the snails or too risky.

I doubt they will die and the rock will probably leech out food for the vermatids to eat. I bet if you keep them in saltwater for one year without feeding anything, the vermatids will outlive everything else.

Like @Kattkrazie said, the shells will stay on the rock forever even after bleaching. I’ve gotten dry rock before that had their little shells all over it. I recommend pinching them off so you don’t freak out later if you see a shell.

Okay Awesome, thank you very much for the information!
I'll just go ahead with the bleaching then and pinch everything off. Don't want any signs of them if I start again.

These are probably one of the hardest pests to get rid of. I’ll take aiptasia over vermatids any day.

First time doing saltwater a few months ago and bought everything from a shutdown tank, didn't know any better. Once I set it up the snails just kept expanding in numbers, made me hate the whole tank, literally just shut it down a few days ago and want to start all over again. 400lbs in a 225 Gallon. Good to know bleach should kill them off though. They make the rock look horrible

I have live rock that I’ve had for a long time. Switched between upgrades and downgrades. I’ve had my ups and downs with them but finally lest free as far as I know. I will continue to use this rock for new tanks in the future but any outside rock will have to be dry rock. Good luck. I’d bleach them.
