One of my ricordea yuma used to be about 3" across, vibrant green, and one of the hardiest corals in the tank it seemed. Over the last 6-8 weeks, it has been shrinking and bleaching, and it's mouth is often open wide. My ricordia florida is als shrinking (like 1/5 it's original size). No major changes in flow, lighting, or placement in almost a year. I am thinking my nitrates are too low. I've also been trying to bring my calcium up for the last few weeks. Thoughts/advice?

Today's parameters:

pH 8.3
Alk 8.6 dkh
Calc 360 ppm (was 350 2 weeks ago)
PO4 0.05-0.1 ppm
Nitrates 1 ppm

If all else has remained the same, I would worry that the nitrates may be the issue. Mushrooms like a little nitrate/phosphate in the system. Maybe look at turning off your skimmer for awhile or look at minimizing your other export methods until you can get these nutrients back up some. If all else fails, maybe dose those components.

2 week update: been dosing Sodium Nitrate and keeping NO3 at 5-10 ppm. All my corals, especially my mushrooms, are looking much happier. Using a filter, but this is the same yuma, fluffed up and back to full colour.

What kit do you test nitrates with, maybe they bottomed out. My yumas and florideas are happy at 2-3ppm, using nyos.
