Hi my milka is bleaching this is from yesterday to today... yesterday was ok, but i removed other 2inches bleached coral right near this one... 2 inces away.was red sps frag dont know the name. Others corals are ok, zoas open, green, brown sps open and growing only this 2 are bleached. 2 softies open,. All I did was buffer mg from 1170 to 1240 in 2 days with 100g mg mixed with rodi and mixed in the sump, was this too fast? Recomended is 100 ppm in a day.
Ca mg dkh all by the book, nitrates 2ppm... will tisue continue to dissapear.... hope not..tnx

today is far worse, anyone can respond please.. Do I take the bleached part out and hope that wont go further? Everything else is ok..Help

Hi, sorry for the bleaching, the same thing happend with my seriatopora a few times over the years for no apparent reason.
What i did was to cut a healthy frag and place it far from the colony. Each times the colony went away and the new frag was fine until it reached the point when i had to do it again.

Good luck

If the only changing factor was mag id think it was a reaction to that. Can you do a waterchange? Whats the mag of your newly mixed salt?

Yea if any SPS "bleaches" totally white, its definitely from water parameters swinging. If they actually bleach they will slowly lose color all over the colony. I like what @reeflover said, do a water change and stabilize the parameters. I would increase that over a time period of like a couple of weeks. I did the same thing in my tank and it said 100 ppm is ok for a swing over a day, but I ended up losing corals. I Hope this helped! Good Luck!

Ok tnx so maybee it was magnesium, it is first time I dose it. I try to do no wc for 2 months, but then I did 5% anyway when I wasnt sure if my son put some water tests in a tank or not. Well from wc its been 14 days and all parameters was ok, just mg dosage... 3 days ago. I dose also component abc and kalium, but minimum dosage 1/3 of what it states. My kh is rock solid 8.6-9 and my ph is 8-8.1 steady. For now I will wait and see what happens... Mg is 1240 now and its mixed so maybee solution of mg and rodi came in contact with this corals...I am waiting for dosing pumps and I dosed manually... it was too fast I think..

Tnx I will dose as little as necesary, just to compensate consumption of macro elements that are usually added with wc. @reeflover aquaforest reef salt has mg 1300-1360, so now its less. Next time I will add elements really slowly..

Isn't the best way to 'stabilize' the parameters (which are all ok - at least the ones we can measure) - to not do a water change and let time take its course.... I have had terrible luck with this coral - and great luck with others. I think they are very difficult to keep in a mixed tank - ie that they are sensitive to something in the tank (a toxin from another coral, perhaps). What do you run your temperature at - and alkalinity and how much light and flow.

Thays why i asked what the salt mixed to...being that high i would let it come down naturally on its own...

Obviously the corals did not like the swing in parameters. Personally I don't think dosing should be done at all if you haven't been doing since the start of the tank as the corals are acclimated to that water and have been for a long time. As for the water change or letting it be I say its up to you, your call.

First - Raising the MG from 1170 to 1240 is not that much over 2 days (if I'm understanding it correctly). Secondly - If you look at the BRS magnesium calculator for a 100 gallon tank (don't know how big yours is) - it would take 1 cup of Mg chloride and 1/2 cup of Mg SO4 mixed in about 500cc RODI to raise MG from 1170 to 1240. so 100 mg is an extremely small amount to add unless your tank is really small. Are you sure it isnt something else? Third - bleaching is not always 'permanent' tissue loss usually is. If its bleaching - Im not sure you should be doing anything. If tissue is 'falling off' the coral - than I think fragging is the best option (but it never worked when my tissue was lost from this coral).

The funny thing is according to several stores - this is supposed to be an extremely easy starter coral - I have never been able to keep it more than 2 weeks - though other soft corals, LPS and SPS are thriving. Good luck.

Its 350L neto, aprox 92galons, bruto 20galons more. Yes 100g of Mg mixed with 500I...in 2 days. I took out damaged corals, Yes tisue was falling of her, visibly. Dont know, I will do wc today and then I will see...Thank you!

@MnFish1 my temperature is 24-25 degrees now and I have 2 80w ati t5 with one custom 160w blue and white leds running on 50%. flow is mantained with 2 8000l heads on wave pattern. During night my grow light in cheto reactor and in sump with cheto in is lid so ph doesnt swing. I have problems with po4 beeing too low with aquaforest test its unnoticed . My alkanity is 8.6-9 kept with ca reactor with pure ca and old corals in reactor. Other then that I only add 1ML per week components abc from aquaforest and 5 drops 0.3ml of kalium.
Thats 3 times less then recomended but corals were all ok and open till this happend.

Yes - is kind of weird. first that your magnesium changed that much with 100 mg? - Could the initial test have been wrong? - Depending on the test - I've also seen this much variability in MG from 1 test to another done within 5 minutes. In any case - this is exactly what happens in my tank when I buy this coral - it is ok for a while - then within a matter of days - the tissue comes off (perhaps over a week) - and is dead. So its more than bleaching.

I added 100g not mg.. so according to aquaforest mg online calculator readings are perfect more or less. WellI have 3 smaller frags on diffrent places, this one is now smaller but still big. Hope thats it. This one is in the tank for 2 months . Others I have are in for 6 months so hope they will stay.

Yeah - you wrote mg initially though:). which was confusing. Still it doesn't seem like Magnesium is causing this problem - as you are well under the 100 ppm change/day. I just bought a large one - about 2 weeks ago - and so far its ok as well.

For now tisue stoped bleaching, dissapearing. I havent touched anything. I will wait and only measure my po4 and feed some more for now. Then I will see how it goes. One more think I dont have kalium test so I added 5 drops per week thats 1/3 of recomented for 100l and I have allmost 4 times more volume. Maybee my kalium is too low? I really need potasium test... :)

Maybee one of my other corals is releasing toxins? Now my big softie wont open for 2 days.. and green leaf is gerting brown cianos or something on. Others are fine see pictures..
