Hi, tried posting this yesterday and guess I never hit submit. So I have a starry blenny in qt for almost 3 weeks now and he seems to be doing good. Eating, swimming etc.

Yesterday I noticed his stomach looked bloated, bumpy and a little paler than the rest of him. As I noticed this amd was watching I saw him poop twice. It was solid-ish and brown. Right after it looked like stomach went down a little but was still the same description.

I just checked him again today and still the same although a little less bloated. But again saw him poop and this time eat it. Ive been mixing up the diet with pellets, frozen mysis and flake. And usually feed daily or every other.

Ive read they can eat substrate but there is none. Just a pvc pipe and one frag of bryopsis covered zoas. Is this normal? Indication of a problem? Any ideas?

I have a starry Blenny also and he is a major pig. His tummy/gut always looks a little lighter than the rest of his body.

He was the biggest pooper I’d ever seen until I got a yellow tang!
I would just keep an eye on him.

Ok good to hear, cause I cant wait to put him in my tank. Thanks!

Post pics once he is settled. Starry blennies are so comical & fun to watch.

Will do! Ive wanted a starry since I got into reefing and didnt have a big enough tank when I started. Now I do and working on the patience part of this hobby. But I wanna put him in!

Herbivores, in general, tend to poop kind of a lot. They consume a lot of food, because it's more difficult to digest.

Oh, yeah ... my starry eats a _gob_ of sand. You'd think he was a parrotfish, the way he poops it out . . .
