Hey Guys,
I have a Midas blenny that is getting picked on by either my Starry Blenny or Damsel (I think). I have had him in the display for a couple of weeks now. The first day my Starry was ticked at the Midas and chased him around a bit but after that it seems like the aggression subsided. I have kinda seen my Neon Velvet Damsel kinda act like he was going to "jump" towards the midas but that's it. I have had a couple small fish disappear since my wife 'had' to have the neon velvet (will touch on this below). I have a 90Gallon DT that these are in.
Fast forward to last night I was watching my Midas swim around the tank and I decided to just get close and to the glass and I noticed that he/her was not using it's left fin or moving it at all (the one by his gill that they always use) He was still getting around the tank and ate the LRS happily when I fed it. My mistake here is I probably should have taken him out and set the QT back up but i didn't. My wife called me a bit ago and said that he didn't look good and she doesn't think he will make it by the time I get off work and was basically limping to the back of the tank...so I suspect he took more damage today. If he has passed by the time I get home I will inspect im to see if I can see any more damage than last night.
I do have the following fish and none of them are new and have been in the DT for atleast 7 - 12 months: Royal Gramma, 2x Clown fish, Starry Blenny, Small Female Bellus angel, Mandrian, Melanarus wrasse, purple firefish.
Neon Velvet Damsel i've only had for about 4 months I think...maybe 3.
In the past month I have had a couple smaller fish that I had for a long time die/disappear but at the time I just didn't think much of it. Yellow Clown Goby (1yrs and just disappeared one day), high fin goby (disappeared) and last week I had a red fire fish decide to be a olympic swimmer and was on top of the screen when i woke up one morning...got out along the small crack in the side i guess.
The only aggression out side of the starry going after the midas I've witnessed is my femal clown (snowflake) will chase after the damsel some, but she always has since i got the damsel. Out side of that there really hasn't been any aggression at all.
Any chance that it's common for a damsel (or another one of my fish) to nip at fins like that? I'd kinda think the starry would have taking a spot out of his tail or something.
Thanks for all the help!
